These pores sometimes become clogged, causing bacteria to build up behind the skin. The best acne treatment is a healthy diet. Eating a healthy diet allows your digestive system. There are certain foods that can trigger the onset of acne and these foods should be eliminated or limited in your diet.

A healthy lifestyle including a healthy diet and exercise can help you to decrease your chance of an acne outbreak. Sometimes hormonal changes can cause acne – especially the menstrual cycle. For those who have acne outbreaks, there are effective acne treatments. If you have severe acne, you may want to seek the advice of your physician. In some cases, your physician may prescribe medications for your acne.

A healthy and all-natural approach to hair care is not as difficult as you might think. Some of the most expensive hair care products in the world might claim to be natural products but all too often they contain detergents, fragrances, and synthetic ingredients, truth be told the lavender shampoo you love so much is full of synthesized stuff and probably smells nothing like the real thing at all.

Making your own natural products for your hair is not only incredibly easy but its economical, and most importantly its fun! Most of the supplies to make all natural products for bath, body, and hair care can be found in the grocery store, the local health food store or even the local farmers market, and any supplies that you might buy at the farmers market has the added benefit of going to support local farmers and crafts people in your community so it is not only good for your hair but good for your community too.

It is important to note that when making your own natural hair products you should always use the highest quality of ingredients and supplies. Using good quality ingredients will always yield better natural products. Whenever possible use organic herbs and organic essential oil, this will make your hair even healthier. Use either distilled or if at all possible spring water again this will yield a higher quality of product, and there is just something magical about washing your hair with a spring water product. Finally always keep everything squeaky clean, this includes work surfaces, utensils, and your hands, this will prevent contamination of your natural products.

There are many different combinations of herbs and essential oils that you could try depending on your hair type, color or any other special considerations you may have.

Chamomile and calendula are great herbs if you want to bring out blond highlights; likewise, sage and comfrey are the best herbs to bring out dark highlights. For oily hair rosemary and yarrow are excellent, if the hair is dry two of the best herbs to use are marshmallow and nettle.

Essential oils also have their uses for hair problems, some great essential oils for oily hair are basil, lemon, and ylang-ylang, are all great for oily hair but they can also treat dandruff, encourage hair growth, give golden highlights, and make hair thicker.

Rose is great for fine hair and also is soothing to the scalp. Peppermint and Rosemary are not only excellent for dry scalp but they promote healthy hair growth. Lavender and Tea Tree are two of the most popular essential oils for bath and body product, are not only good for the hair but they are also antibacterial and are two of the essential oils used for treating many conditions including what all parents fear, the dreaded head lice, and calendula infused oil is used for treating another common childhood scalp problem, cradle cap.

Try making your own natural products for all your families hair care needs, you will love the results.

Many of us know the value of essential oils used in skin care and, of course, in an aromatherapy treatment (eg. an essential oil massage) itself, but did you know that simple baking soda, plain white vinegar and a few favorite essential oils are about all you need in your cleaning pantry for daily cleaning and sanitizing of your home?

Often there is an entire supermarket aisle dedicated to the many, and often confusing, sink and tub powders, cleaning creams, antibacterial wipes, toilet cleaners, floor cleaners, window cleaners, etc. - there’s a product for every different part of the home. Really though, there is very little need for such a ridiculously huge number of chemicals.

Baking soda is about as efficient as any cleansing cream or powder, and plain white vinegar and/or certain essential oils, such as eucalyptus, manuka, thyme or australian tea tree, are highly effective antimicrobial alternatives to the never ending number of cleaning solutions we seem to think we need. And, even though there are many new ‘green’ alternatives also beginning to line the supermarket shelves, they’re not all necessary.

The benefits to using ‘green’ alternatives – baking soda, vinegar and essential oils for keeping your home clean and sanitized include:

* BATHROOM sprinkle some baking soda onto a moist rag and use this to clean bathroom surfaces. Rinse thoroughly. To sanitize, wipe surfaces with a clean cloth soaked in vinegar then wipe dry after allowing it to sit a few minutes. For a fresh aroma, place 5-7 drops of Eucalyptus Essential Oil onto a rinsing cloth and wipe this over hard surfaces.

* LINENS: Place 8-10 drops of Lavender Essential Oil onto a piece of rag or paper towel then place between linens and sheets in the cupboard. Enjoy a delicate lavender scent each time you walk past the cupboard!

* SHOE DEODORIZER? Place a cup of baking soda into a jar with a tight-fitting lid. Add 20 drops of Lavender Essential Oil. Shake well to disperse the essential oils then use this as your deodorizer! 2 tablespoons of this powder in each shoe, shaken around to coat all of the inner shoe surfaces, left overnight or, even better, for a week, then tapped out, will do wonders to eliminate the smell from those old sneakers! And the deodorizing effect last for a very long time.

* TOOTHPASTE ALLERGY? I have an allergy to 99% of commercial toothpastes. Instead of using these I make a tooth powder with baking soda pre-mixed with a few drops of Spearmint Essential Oil. A small amount of this sprinkled onto a wet toothbrush is all that is needed for the cleanest teeth, ever.

* WINDOWS: a 50:50 water/vinegar solution in a sprayer can replace those highly fragranced synthetic cleanser. Add a few drops of your favorite essential oil for fragrance if you like (you’ll need to shake before using to disperse the oil).

* REPLACE DRYER SHEETS: that are highly doused in toxic synthetic fragrances with a 6? square out of a clean rag that has been covered with about 10 drops of your favorite Essential Oil.

Treating Acne With Ablative And Non-ablative Lasers
Although there are many different ways to treat acne, many traditional acne treatments are harsh on your skin and have numerous side effects. However, experimentation with different techniques are yielding positive results and providing much safer and natural ways to deal with acne and acne scars. At the forefront of these more gentle acne treatments are light and laser therapy.
It has been found that specialized lights and lasers can have a positive impact on acne and can even remove acne scars in some cases. There are now a variety of lights and lasers that can be used in different situations to treat acne depending on a person’s skin type and the severity of their acne. However, there is some kind of laser or light therapy for nearly anyone, regardless of how severe their acne is or where it is located: on the face, on the back, or even the scalp and hairline.
Although laser beams are a type of light ray, there are some distinct differences between light and laser treatments, and even drastic differences between various laser treatments. One thing that should be noted is that since light and laser treatments do not necessarily include any kind of medications or traditional medicine, there are no restrictions on who can professionally apply laser treatments. This means you do not need a license, certification, or training to operate laser or light treatments. As with other acne treatments, each treatment carries certain risks, although some are more serious than others.
Laser Treatments
There are two types of laser treatments, ablative and non-ablative. Both of these laser treatments are becoming very popular because of their effectiveness in eradicating acne, as well as removing acne scars, age lines, wrinkles, and discolorations. As would be expected, the more extreme treatment yields quicker and more permanent results, but there is a risk of side effects.
Ablative lasers are the oldest type of laser used to treat acne. The ablative laser rids skin of acne in two different ways. First, the laser heats the sebatious glands beneath the skin. The heat applied to the sebatious glands causes them to shrink and produce much less oil, which means that your pores do not clog as easily. However, ablative lasers also remove the epidermis, which is the outermost layer of your skin. The epidermis is essentially burned off or ‘vaporized’ as many websites say. Removing the outer layer of skin destroys skin that is marked with acne scars and causes collegen growth, which replaces skin damaged by acne scars with clear, smooth skin.
Although this treatment only takes one session, patients will find that their face is red and very sensitive for a number of weeks, which is a direct result of the outer layer of skin being burned off. The skin that replaces it is normally free from noticeable flaws, but it takes several weeks for this skin to grow and heal, leaving patients discomforted and with red marks on their face until healing is complete.
Using an ablative laser to treat acne is very much like removing a tattoo. Vaporizing the epidermis essentially allows your skin a blank slate so that it can grow back naturally without any scar tissue or formations. The drawback of using ablative lasers is that it takes a long time to heal completely and it is possible to vaporize too much with the laser. In some cases, laser operators can make the laser too intense or hold it in one place too long and cause permanent scarring.
Non-ablative lasers, on the other hand, produce similar results, but are much milder. Like ablative lasers, non-ablative lasers also shrink and impair the functions of the sebaceous glands so that they will not get clogged as easily and produce pimples. However non-ablative lasers have no effect on the outer layer of your skin. Because your epidermis is not burned off, non-ablative lasers do not leave patients with embarrassing red marks on their face. Non-ablative lasers also stimulate collagen growth, so acne scars can be removed without vaporizing your skin. However, because non-ablative lasers are not as harsh, they do require more than one treatment session. For non-ablative lasers, it may be necessary to receive treatment every two weeks.
If you do decide to pursue laser therapy to deal with your acne, it is necessary to make sure that the person running the laser is qualified and knows what they are doing. Because you do not need a license or certification to purchase or operate a laser therapy system, some operators will be more reliable than others. For any laser treatment, going to a dermatologist will likely yield much better results than someone who doesn’t have a lot of experience treating acne, especially concerning the use of lasers. Laser treatments can be very effective in treating acne, but if used incorrectly, permanent scarring can result

For those of us who enjoy the many varied aromas that nature offers us, essential oils can be a wonderful addition in our life to help improve our well being. You can use them in aromatherapy, for medicinal purposes and as flavouring in foods. But where do they come from and what exactly are they?Essential oils are concentrated liquids that contain natural aroma composites from plants. They are called essential because they carry the distinctive aromas of the plants the come from. Basically, they hold the “essence” of that plant. One thing to keep in mind is that they should not be confused with fragrant oils, which are synthetic oils that contain both natural and artificial fragrances. History of Essential OilsHolistic treatments using essential oils have been around for thousands of years. Some of the first documented uses of essential oils for therapeutic purposes were found in ancient Egypt. The Egyptians used aromatic herbs and plants and their essences for rituals, cosmetics and medicines, as well as in the process of embalming and mummification. These uses and many others have been assimilated by many cultures and have been perpetuated throughout history into modern times, especially in the area of aromatherapy. The Birth of AromatherapyIn 1937, the French chemist Rene Gattefosse coined the term aromatherapy during his experiments with the healing properties of essential oils. In fact, at one point when Gattefosse burnt his hand, he used the first liquid he could find to treat it, which was undiluted lavender oil. He found that not only did it immediately ease the pain, but also as the hand healed there was no infection or scarring. How Essential Oils WorkFor medicinal purposes, essential oils are used in three different ways: application to the skin, inhalation and ingesting. When applied to the skin, the oils soak in much like any other ointment. Upon inhalation, the molecules from the oils are absorbed through the mucous membranes in our noses and throughout our respiratory system. Ingestion, which should only be at the advice of someone who is specifically trained in this area, can be used to transport essential oils throughout the body. However, some essential oils can be toxic to different organs.Uses of Essential OilsEssential oils are well known for their aromatic, air freshening characteristics, but they can also be used in other manners. These oils can be used for many things including; steam inhalation, massage, hair and body care, floral waters, compresses and baths. A little bit of research can help you find the right oil for the right purpose. Popular Essential OilsWhile there are many different essential oils, some have become more popular than others and are commonly used in many people’s homes. Bergamot, Clary Sage, Eucalyptus, Geranium, Lavender, Lemon, Peppermint, Sandalwood, Tea Tree and Ylang-Ylang all have restorative and relaxing properties as well as medicinal uses. Be sure to spend time researching them to find the best ones for your needs.Essential oils are wonderfully aromatic and healing additions to any home and with proper use; they can help restore harmony and balance to your life.

Acne light treatment, also known as Clearlight or Blue light therapy is the newest addition to the long-line of acne treatments in the market. This therapy is believed to be the hope for acne patients who have little or not success with all the other available forms of treatments. Blue light therapy works by killing the bacteria which cause most cases of acne. P. Acnes generates small molecules called porphyrins which help in producing the bacteria which, in turn, cause acne inflammation. These porphyrins are the main target of Blue light therapy. It has been observed that porphyrins that have been exposed to Clearlight eventually produce free radicals that wipe out the P. acnes bacteria.
The popularity of acne light treatment is growing each day as more and more people are being treated of their blemishes in a drug-free manner. This light treatment, as compared to the topical medications that often burn the skin, does not contain strong ingredients which would also cause some damage. Most topical creams or solutions cause redness, peeling, and an increase on sensitivity to light. Blue light therapy is known as a magnificent alternative to most of the stingy acne treatments.
There are some individuals who have voiced out their concern that this treatment might not be that safe as it used to utilize UV or ultraviolet light (which is known to be harmful to the skin). This concern has long been answered as the FDA has cleared acne light treatment and approved it for use since it no longer utilizes UV light. FDA’s approval for this therapy was released in August 2002.
There has been an experiment made wherein two 15-minute exposures in a week (for a total of four weeks) reduced acne for about 60% among 80 percent of patients. The remission in acne lasted for as long as three or even up to eight months.
Dermatologists now offer Clearlight and it is administered with the use of a blue or red light which uses Acne PhotoClearingTM-APCTM technology. The red or blue light zeroes in on the acne surface and eventually repairs it. In a single month, an acne patient could already walk out of the clinic, free of inflamed acne.
Patients who undergo Clearlight are, basically, exposed to a source of low intensity blue light (about 405-420 nm) for 15 minutes twice each week. This goes on for four straight weeks and sessions cost about $50-150. This makes the set of treatment approximately $800, and the sad part is, since it is considered as a cosmetic treatment, it will not be covered by any medical insurance.
A different form of blue light therapy is the LHE therapy or the pulsed light and heat energy therapy. LHE makes use of both heat and light to destroy the underlying cause of acne. It works much like blue light therapy as it uses light to kill the bacteria that cause acne. The addition of heat ascertains a reduction on sebum. This reduction causes sebaceous glands to shrink. LHE promises fast results in as little as 30 days. With sessions done in over ten minutes, more and more patients are opting to go under the light. For any information on acne light treatments, it is best to ask your dermatologist. Remember that only the mild to moderate cases can be treated with LHE. For more severe cases, consult a specialist.

Biofeedback, cognitive imagery and hypnosis are three essential ingredients of this treatment group. Stress, especially emotional stress, is seen having the ability to worsen the condition quite extensively.
During a feedback session, an individual is placed under guided imagery, which allows the individual to visualize something soothing to his mind; hence the condition promotes a complete relaxation to the individual concerned. It is assumed that the bodily changes occurred during the relaxation process induce the enhancement of the whole system in such a fashion that it promotes overall health.
On the other hand, hypnosis is found to function quite effectively on varieties of skin problems inclusive of acne. It is considered as a successful acne natural treatment solution. However, there is no clear hypothesis about how hypnosis works on acne, but it is assumed that it soothes the mind and body; hence it improves the hormonal activity and overall immune system, which actually contributes to the reduction of acne. Ayurveda

This is an ancient treatment procedure in India and its sub-continents. One preparation in Ayurveda, known as Sunder Vati, can be successfully used as an acne natural treatment.

A scar is an unwelcome guest on everyone’s face, and makeup is one weapon that most people use to fight against it. It is a remedy that could work to a certain extent, especially if the scar is mild, but laser scar treatment offers a far more effective and lasting cure for an acne scar problem.

The face is not the only place where scars make their appearance, even though that is where they are most conspicuous. A scar may not only be the aftermath of acne, but also a wound, a burn, or a surgery. Either way, it is the symbol of skin’s healing mechanism, but the fact does not make it very appealing to the one who has to bear its brunt. Lots of people try creams and lotions to cover up their scars. These may be partially effective but laser treatment is bound to be far more effective than any such creams or gels. It is a treatment that is not very cumbersome, and the recouping time from the procedure will be at the most two days.

The device used in laser treatment is operated by the doctor with his hand. The laser beam is turned directly on the scar tissue. The patient would not feel any pain worth the name during the treatment, though there may be a snapping or stinging sensation on the skin. The treated area will remain swollen for a time, though recuperating is pretty fast normally. The only precaution required is avoiding sunlight completely for a month till the skin is fully healed.

Laser scar treatment for acne scars has recorded a good percentage of success. At least 50% reduction of the marks has been recorded in all cases, with up to 80% success rate in many cases. Individual skin condition, or body constitution, may influence the results, but overall success rate has been quite satisfactory. It may not be possible to get the deeper scars to do the vanishing trick fast, though for the smaller scars, exposure to laser for up to 20 minutes is seen to be sufficient for scar removal. But extra sessions, or longer sessions do an effective job on larger scars also. Laser treatment is effective on all the following three types of scars.

Keloid scars are reddish purple. They are firm and raised and may extend beyond the initial wound area or grow larger with time.

Hypertrophic scar is a pink, raised scar, which does not encroach into areas outside the original injury, and could even shrink with time.

Unlike the other two, atrophic scars are depressed ones, withdrawing into the skin. The most common cause of an atrophic scar is acne.

If you need laser acne scar treatment, you should ideally inform the doctor about how you happened to get the scar and how long you have been having it. The doctor will then be able to suggest the best treatment and provide other details like healing time and expenses.
